No Drama Please

Do you know people who have one big drama or one crisis after another in their lives? They could take a calm situation and turn it into a 3-part docu-drama series event. Or maybe it is their ‘normal’ to have many events that are filled with emotion or circumstances that seem to get blown way out of proportion.

I do think the word ‘drama’ has taken a bum-rap over the years with ‘drama queen’ being at the top of the list. The meaning of the word drama is ‘an exciting, emotional, or unexpected series of events or circumstances’. It comes from Latin meaning ‘action’.

Living your life without drama, does not mean there isn’t excitement or emotion. It just means there isn’t the over the top, roller-coaster of emotions or events.

I think back to when I was in the corporate world of IT. When there was a new program or new system being released, each meeting, each day was drama. If something didn’t go the way it was supposed to, there was drama, in a not so positive way. And as you may have experienced in your life, the bosses’ drama many times turns into your drama.

What steps can you take, to stay out of the drama and maintain your calm? Here are some ideas which may help. I would love for you to share what has worked for you, at the end in the comments section.

How can you allow other people to live in their drama, while you maintain your center:

Breathe – I have probably said this 100 times throughout my blogs. It is the number one thing you can do for yourself. Breathe in through your nose, hold for a second or two and release the air, through your mouth – all of it. Repeat 3-5 times.

Take a walk – This may mean walking to the restroom, going to get a drink of water, it could be walking around the building or out to your car for a minute. When you walk away, the ‘excitement or emotion of the drama’ dissipates.

Say the word calm – Repeat the word calm, over and over in your mind (saying it out loud may increase the other’s drama). While repeating ‘calm’, think of a picture in your mind that reminds you of calm – waves gentle on the beach, a beautiful sunset, a warm breeze on your cheek. This may bring the other person into your calm…

Walk away – This may mean walking away from the situation for good. There are times that walking away for good is the best thing you can do for yourself and the other as well as the situation.

Angel Blessings to you.
